Internet porn has often been called the “crack cocaine of sex addiction,” because it is accessible, affordable and anonymous.

Have you erased your computer history because you don’t want your spouse to find out what you’ve been viewing?

Are you risking your job by watching porn at work?

Have you viewed porn when your spouse or kids are in the next room?

Porn is a highly addictive drug. Viewing pornography affects your brain in the same way cocaine does by flooding your brain with dopamine. A Cambridge study showed an ‘uncanny similarity’ between the brain scans of porn users and those of cocaine users.

Internet porn has often been called the “crack cocaine of sex addiction,” because it is accessible, affordable and anonymous. The availability to novelty is endless, and novelty is what your brain seeks in order to ‘keep the high.’ As with cocaine addiction, your brain becomes acclimated to the increased levels of dopamine and the more porn you watch, the more novelty and intensity you need in order to ‘get high.’

The problem is that the things that used to feel good, like making love to your spouse or holding your child in your arms, now seem boring and insignificant in comparison to the jolt of excitement you experience when viewing pornography.  In terms of dopamine release, real life is no match for what you can find online.

Has porn addiction taken over your life? It doesn’t have to be that way.
